For the Tamworth chapter of Friendship Force International*, Barry Gorringe is – and always has been – a “valuable resource”.
Spokeswoman Eunice Holford said for most years when club members go overseas, they choose Barry as the preferred agent for the group.
“This year we’re heading out to Gelsenkirchen, Germany and Austria,” Eunice said.
“Some of us are travelling in different directions beforehand, but Barry co-ordinates everything to do with our group travel.
“He liaises with us on all the group activities. We all meet in Frankfurt on June 12, and Barry has booked a hotel for us and all our overseas travel and accommodation.
“He’s organising our train travel and train passes from Frankfurt, with a two-day stopover in Salzburg, in Austria, then we go on to Vienna.”
Eunice said there was a group of 16 going to Germany and Austria.
“When the group went to Costa Rica last year, Barry organised that, too,” she said.
“The group flew from here to Dallas, stayed a week in Dallas with Friendship Force hosts and on to Mexico. After that, it was on to Costa Rica.
“Whenever we want to go anywhere, we go to him. He’s always really helpful with getting us to our destination and between places, with accommodation and other things,” Eunice said.
“Often we’ll do something extra (at Barry’s suggestion). Once we came back through Vietnam after spending two weeks in Thailand on a Friendship Force exchange. Barry organised the extra week in Vietnam for us. He’s a valuable resource for when our groups go out. We do one outbound exchange each year.”
*Friendship Force International provides opportunities to explore new countries and cultures from the inside by bringing people together at the personal level.
Through the signature program of home hospitality, local hosts welcome international visitors into their culture, sharing with them meals, conversation, and the best sights and experiences of their region.
In a typical Friendship Force program, a local club (chapter) prepares an itinerary of cultural activities, inviting members from clubs in other countries to come and stay with them in their homes for up to a week.
